Tuesday in class we examined the four reasons to study geography and discussed the summer’s news. We focused the latter on Russia, Georgia, South Ossetia, and Abkhazia. It was a lively discussion. Today in class we took notes on the geographic skills and standards while also practicing our geographic skills. PowerPoints of both the geographic skills and standards are available in the class folder on the SHS network. Through virtual landscape observation, the class honed in on the answer–Brisbane, Australia–to our geographic question. Student expertise was also demonstrated when we examined photos, maps, and satellite images of Denali and Mt. St. Helens. We ended class with a Map Analysis being assigned. The map analysis is due 9/4.

Welcome to a great year! (1) Students today received a course outline, which needs to be signed and returned by Thursday. (2) Students also received a Goode’s Atlas, Human Geography in Action, and Knox and Marston’s Human Geography textbook. Those three books are checked out to the students and can stay at home for the year. We have class sets of each book to use when they are in class or here at school. (3) Students also received a booklet about taking an AP course and taking AP exams. Please peruse that at home.
We will start on class assignments tomorrow morning.
